It is profoundly concentrated with floral notes intermixed with blackberries, creosote, earth, and background oak. Although fabulously rich and long, it appears a bit undersized next to the 2002. The large-framed 2001 will hit its peak by 2007, and last until 2020. - Robert Parker

Wine Spectator - Wine Spectator, August 2003
Dense in texture, but then it seems to open up to become supple, revealing gorgeous exotic spice, mixed berry and mineral flavors that linger enticingly on the polished finish. Best after 2005. 250 cases imported. –HS

Highly aromatic nose combines sappy raspberry, smoked meat, gunflint and pepper; slight suggestion of superripeness. Urgent and penetrating, with firm acids just this side of hard-edged. Still quite bound-up and tight, but this very primary, youthfully clenched wine has all the elements to make a superb bottle with another few years of aging. - Jeremy Oliver
