This is looking instantly the most attractive of the range by far - a nose not dissimilar to premium Shiraz with pepper, plum, blackberry, spice and sweetmeat. It's massive on the palate, but super balanced too, boasting outstanding hints of fresh coffee and cocoa that linger on the finish. Very moreish! A strong candidate for Port of the vintage, Fonseca's 2001 Quinta do Panascal boasts a nose filled with rich, dense, brooding fruit. Blackberries and plums rush the palate; it's lush and fruity, yet given shape by some dusty tannins. Turns chocolaty on the finish. Likely to be an early-maturing vintage; drink 2010–2020, possibly beyond.
