Finishes with a burst of flavor and hints of nutmeg and cedar. Best from 2005 through 2012. 182 cases made. (JL)

There are seven barrels (175 cases) of the 2001 Syrah. Inky/purple with a smoky richness of blackberry jam intermixed with hints of creosote and truffles this is a big thick opulent Syrah fruit bomb that should drink well... Inky/purple with a smoky richness of blackberry jam intermixed with hints of creosote and truffles this is a big thick opulent Syrah fruit bomb that should drink well for 10-12 years possibly longer.

Deep meaty aromas of roasted black raspberry mocha and milk chocolate. Lush sweet and stuffed with fruit; flavors of wild dark berries dark chocolate coffee mocha and meat. Has just enough acidity to maintain its shape. In a decidedly late-harvest style with huge broad thoroughly ripe tannins arriving late and a lingering suggestion of M&Ms. This impressively fat take-no-prisoners syrah will never be mistaken for an example from the Northern Rhone but there's distinctive site character here. The vineyard was not watered between fruit set and veraison to ensure smaller berry size. 90 points
