Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2005

The wine of the vintage? There are only 10000 cases of this extraordinarily rich dense 2002 ...It is dark ruby/purple to the rim with notes of English walnuts crushed rocks black currants and forest floor dense...

Wine Spectator, March 2005

Loads of ripe currants licorice and toasted oak on the nose. Subtle yet impressive. Full-bodied with a solid core of ripe fruit and chewy tannins. Big and juicy. Deep midpalate for a 2002. This is the wine of the vintage...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, August 2013

With a nose filled with walnut, cassis, tobacco, blackberry and forest floor aromas. The wine is medium/full bodied with a refined character. The finish is all about the sweet, lush rich, balanced textures and classy...

Vinous, September 2022

The 2002 Latour is more backward on the nose, quite floral with rose petal scents infusing the red and black fruit, a marine element that emerges with time in the glass. I could not find any of the Christmas cake aromas...

Decanter, March 2022

Uncharacteristically un-Latour-ish, this wine is soft and unassuming, yet there is charm here as well. Drinking well now but does not seem to have the substance to hold for the long term. After a problematic flowering...

Chateau Latour, one of Bordeaux’s oldest and most famous wine producers, is a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It’s located in Pauillac near the border with Saint-Julien.

Vines have existed on the property since the 14th century, but Chateau Latour first began producing wines of great quality in the early eighteenth century. The estate gradually came to specialize in wine production, with 38 hectares of vines in 1759 and 47 hectares in 1794.

The vineyard currently has 78 hectares in production. The grapes from the 47 hectares surrounding the chateau, known as “L’Enclos”, are used in the production of the Grand Vin. The 30 hectares outside of the Enclos are used for the Forts de Latour and the Pauillac wines. The estate is planted with about 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot on gravelly hilltops and clay subsoil.

The wines of Chateau Latour need time to mature, generally at least ten or fifteen years, before they can be drunk. It is only then that the full complexity of the bouquet is expressed and the palate becomes sufficiently well integrated to be enjoyable and harmonious.
