The blockbuster 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa came from two sources the Morisoli Vineyard in St. Helena and the Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford (the source for the famous Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon). This fabulous dense ruby/purple wine is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It exhibits a deep creme de cassis nose with hints of charcoal graphite and spring flowers. Full-bodied rich and youthful it appears to have at least 20 years of life left in it. This is a wine that clearly flew under the radar and if it can still be found and the provenance is excellent it is definitely a big-time buy.

A very stylish wine that's plush rich and concentrated offering an array of spicy currant cedary oak anise herb and mineral flavors that are soothing winning points for its polished texture and firm yet gentle tannins. Best from 2006 through 2013. 4500 cases made. (JL)

The backbone of this wine is from Oakville and Rutherford. It's a classic Napa Cab from what has turned out to be a fine vintage. There's the velvety cassis and chocolate fruit ripeness you expect and the lavish oak but good tannins and acids prevent the decadent flavors from turning flabby. Still the wine's approachability argues for early consumption.
