A dark garnet color with good concentration and amber highlights. The wine retains a pure core of dark fruit, but has certainly developed intriguing secondary aromas with savory notes herbs and dried purple flowers with an underlying gravely minerality. The bouquet is precise and focused while the palate is soft and silky with good balance and structure. The long finish caresses the palate with integrated tannins. A sublime, mature Bordeaux with enhanced complexity from age. Drink now through 2022.

Label

Chateau la Vieille Cure holds 74% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. This mix, coupled with the sunny vineyard facing, makes the wines accessible at a young age. While some vintages benefit from waiting 10 or more years, most are best appreciated between 4 and 6 years.

Winery

La Vieille Cure

Chateau La Vieille Cure is in Fronsac, an AOC on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Wine growing at the chateau dates back to the 17th century. The vines are situated on plateaus and slopes that soak up the sun for generous ripening, with soils predominantly limestone with some chalk and clay.

The property was purchased in 1986 by two American friends and Bordeaux lovers. They replanted part of the vineyard—without touching the very old (over 75 years) vines—and constructed a new winery, equipped with the latest equipment.
