jamessuckling.com, July 2023

This is showing incredible complexity with notes of preserved lemons, beeswax, chamomile, quince and porcini mushrooms. Salted caramel also. It's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with rich and salty layers...

View From The Cellar, October 2014

The 2002 Comtes has been a legend in the making since its first release, and at age twelve, the wine is starting to really stretch its wings and aim for the stars. The utterly brilliant nose is still a tad on the reticent...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2019

The 2002 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is beginning to drink very well, wafting from the glass with a brilliant bouquet that mingles aromas of pear, citrus confit and dried fruits with notions of marzipan...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, August 2017

(18.5/20) Pale greenish straw. Quite a different colour from the vintage 2002 – paler. Lacy reductive nose. Distinctly smoky. Very readable and perfect, fine Chardonnay – richer and more powerful than the 2004.

Wine Enthusiast, December 2012

The latest release of the legendary Comtes de Champagne comes from a great vintage. It has full, toasty bottle-age notes that give the wine depth of flavor, with a ripe, rounded mouthfeel and taut acidity. An almond note...

Wine Spectator, December 2012

A rich base of toasted brioche and briny mineral supports flavors of poached quince, white peach puree, fleur de sel, pastry and smoked almond. There's a quiet verve to this wine, with a fine, silky texture throughout...

Burghound, October 2015

A beautifully elegant and ultra-pure nose serves up attractively layered and slightly phenolic aromas of spiced pear, white rose, citrus, brioche and hints of green apple. There is very good if not stunning complexity to...

Connoisseur's Guide, December 2012

From its first, complex, generously yeasty aromas and on through its very deep, distinctly autolyzed flavors, this rich and compelling wine goes beyond the normal bounds of Blanc de Blancs. It is amazingly rich and...

In 1932, Pierre Taittinger, captivated by the Champagne region and by Chateau de la Marquetterie, developed a champagne business with his brother-in-law Paul Eveque. His son Francois took the torch 13 years later, making improvements to both the cellars and the vineyards. Step by step, he established the Taittinger brand as one of the great Champagne houses, known for its Chardonnay-dominant cuvees and in particular, the prestigious Comtes de Champagne.

Taittinger was sold to US investment group Starwood in 2005, but was bought back by the family a year later. Today, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger has built a team to embark on a new adventure in the spirit of conquest and continuity, including the production of sparkling wine in the English region of Kent.

The Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, Champagne Taittinger’s most rare and precious cuvee, was created as a tribute to the Counts (or “Comtes”) of Champagne who ruled over the Saint-Nicaise Abbey and to Thibauld IV in particular. The blend is derived solely from Chardonnay grapes from the highest ranked crus of the Cote des Blancs, the most prestigious source of Chardonnay in Champagne.

Produced only when the harvest is exceptional quality worthy of a vintage year, and only from the first press, Comtes de Champagne is a study in finesse. Since its first cuvee in 1952, just 30 vintages have been deemed worthy of bottling.
