Wine Spectator, March 2006

Opulent aromas of ripe fruit toasted oak and grilled meat. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and loads of fruit and lightly toasted oak. Very long and delicious. Balanced wine. Best after 2010. 4665 cases made. -JS

The Beau-Sejour Becot vineyard is situated on the western plateau of Saint-Emilion, in the old parish of Saint-Martin de Mazerat. The estate covers 18.5 hectares of which 16.52 hectares are planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (24%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) on chalky soil with fossilized starfish. The average age of the vines is 40 years old and the fruit is harvested by hand.

This wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in 80-100% new barrels depending on the vintage. It then ages in the cellar for 16 to 18 months at constant temperature of 16 degrees Celsius. Annual production is approximately 60,000 bottles.
