(95 points) The 2003 Domaine Bois de Boursan Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Felix is superb. Showing a mature, yet still lively and fruit-driven profile of sweet currants, saddle leather, truffle, and garrigue, it stays beautifully rich and seductive on the palate, with layers of sweet fruit, no hard edges and a great finish. Certainly a ripe vintage, yet everything is perfectly proportioned, the tannins are sweet and it is a joy to drink. A blend of 65% Grenache and the balance a mix of Mourvedre and Syrah, from 90-year-old vines, it held up beautifully with air and is a raging success in the vintage. It can be consumed now or over the coming 5-8 years or more.

(94 points) Captivating aromas of hot stones, game and Provençal herbs are followed by a powerhouse palate of black currant, tar, roasted chestnut and bacony toast. Chewy and muscular, this will need cellaring, but has the stuffing and structure to last. Best from 2007 through 2020. 500 cases made. –JM

(93 points)Coming from 90-year old vines and a blend of 65% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2003 Domaine Bois de Boursan Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Felix has smoking aromatics that just scream Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Smoked cherries, leather, garrigue, dried blood, tar and subtle floral aromas literally jump from the glass and the wine is both complex and intense at the same time. These characteristics carry over to the palate where the wine shows medium to full body, sweet fruit, fresh acidity, firm, dry tannin and a long, lingering finish. The dry tannin on the finish gives me a slight pause with regards to aging but it’s drinking beautifully right now, especially with food. Given how expressive and aromatic this is at the moment, I’d opt for pairing with food and drinking over the next 5 to 8 years.
