Very tight and high-pitched on the nose, hinting at cassis, minerals and graphite.Then lush, sweet and impressively concentrated, with densely packed flavors of kirsch, currant and minerals and noteworthy inner-palate energy. Finer-grained than the Napa bottling, with better integration of acids and tannins. Finishes sappy and very long, with a chewy, palate-staining texture.This has delivered on the promise it showed from barrel.

The powerful, strong 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain may turn out to be richer and fuller than either the 2001 or 2002, an atypical scenario. Its dense blue/purple color is followed by a big, rich nose of cassis, blueberries, minerals, and flowers. Rich, full-bodied, and powerfully tannic, it is classic Dunn stuff. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2030.

Medium bodied, the palate features flavors of red fruit... Ruby garnet with crimson towards the rim. The nose opens with roasted meat, sweet cranberry, cinnamon and white pepper, complemented by turned earth and leather. Medium bodied, the palate features flavors of red fruit and dried flowers. While there is a tannic backbone, the acidity shows more strongly at this point. However, the wine is quite pleasant at present. Drink now through 2015.
