Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2014

A wine I’ve had more than a case of, sometimes with irregular results, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes was drinking about as good as it gets on this occasion. As usual, it’s made in a deeper, richer style...

The Rhone Report, May 2008

The 2003 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is just packed with raspberry liqueur, plums, graphite and licorice notes and with air, subtle spice and garrigue aromas start to show up. Full bodied...

Wine Enthusiast, December 2005

From four parcels of vines all giving different characteristics to the final blend. This is a beautifully structured wine almost charming at first and then packing an intense mouthful of fresh balanced and dangerously...

Wine Spectator, October 2005

Gorgeous raspberry ganache and spice aromas give way to richly layered but silky smooth notes of boysenberry, blackberry, mocha, mineral and tar. Long, pure beam of fruit resonates through the finish. Fantastic purity and...

Domaine de la Janasse, in the Southern Rhone, was founded in 1967 by Aime Sabon. Having returned from military service, he took over management of the family vineyards and formed an estate label, named after the family farm in the locality of “La Janasse”. A cellar was built in 1973 and new plots were acquired, growing the total holdings from 15 hectares to more than 90 today.

In 1991, after earning diplomas in viticulture, oenology and marketing, Aime’s son Christophe Sabon was given the keys to the cellar. His sister Isabelle joined the team in 2001.

La Janasse grows all 13 permissible grapes in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation to give complexity and depth to their different wines. They produce 3 red and 2 white Chateauneuf du Pape wines, red, white and rose Cotes-du-Rhone, and a number of IGP wines.

Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes from four plots of different soil types, that marry perfectly in the finished wine. A southern pebbly soil that brings body and power; a Chaupin-like soil for freshness and acidity; a red clay pebbly soil in the north of the appellation that brings structure and body; and finally a sandy-limestone soil for smoothness.
