The deep and vibrant nose offers up scents of currants, cherries, coffee, hang game, woodsmoke and a fine base of dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very powerfully built for this bottling, with a fine core, modest tannins and a long, focused and well-balanced finish that closes with impressive grip and no signs of sur maturité. A very successful 2003 that is drinking well today, though it should cruise along nicely for a couple of decades.
