The full-bodied 2004 Pritchard Hill Estate Proprietary Red (78% Cabernet Sauvignon 14% Petit Verdot and 8% Merlot) boasts a sensational inky/ruby/purple color to the rim as well as broad rich creme de cassis licorice graphite and spice-like flavors and a tannic finish. While approachable it will benefit from several years of bottle age and should age gracefully for two decades. Tel. (707) 963-7136 and (800) 4 WINERY; Fax (707) 963-7445

The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is still quite primary considering its age and the vintage. Caught in an in-between stage, the 2004 is neither young nor old, but it does need at least few years more in bottle to soften. Ripe dark fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice and earthiness open up gradually. Stylistically, the 2004 seems quite different from the wines Chappellet is making today in terms of its up-front ripeness and sweetness. Of course, part of that may have been the vintage, but I think there is more to it than just that.

93+ Saturated medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, blackberry and violet are lifted by a pungent mineral element. Sweet, bright and deep, conveying a strong impression of energy to the tactile black fruit and violet... 93+ Saturated medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, blackberry and violet are lifted by a pungent mineral element. Sweet, bright and deep, conveying a strong impression of energy to the tactile black fruit and violet flavors. Still a bit tight and youthfully medicinal but has the balance and backbone for a very bright future. Finishes with firm, building tannins and lovely floral lift. Seems even more backward than the Signature bottling.

Rough-hewn dense abundant and chewy with concentrated extracted dried currant mineral and hefty oak and mineral flavors that make this broad-shouldered framed by potent tannins. Needs lots of time. Best from 2009 through...
