Made in an uncharacteristically weighty opulent style for this wine it reveals plenty of ripe dark fruit spices new leather licorice and tar. With air it gradually turns more feminine and delicate yet it remains a gorgeous sumptuous wine of outstanding pedigree. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Full red-ruby. Wild superripe aromas of black cherry flowers menthol and mint. Gaja's 2004 Conteisa is just beginning to enter the early part of its plateau of maturity. The tannins have softened nicely, while the flavors show attractive elements of complexity that has developed in bottle. Smoke, licorice, mint and wild flowers add shades of dimension. As always, Conteisa is a classic La Morra wine built on silkiness that brings out a distinctly feminine expression of Nebbiolo.
