Deep cassis and boysenberry aromas are brightened by zesty minerals and complicated by cured tobacco licorice and baking spices. Sappy dark berry flavors are firmed by youthful tannins and pick up bitter chocolate and licorice with air. A powerful rendition of this wine but there's no excess weight. Shows a more tangy red fruit character on the extremely long juicy finish. Bet on this improving for at least another ten years. -Josh Raynolds

Leeuwin Estate

Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned Australian winery and one of the five founding wineries in the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. Formerly a cattle ranch, the property was converted to vineyards by Denis and Tricia Horgan upon the advice of legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi when he visited Australia and saw the estate’s potential as being ideal for the production of premium wines.

The estate enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979 and was quickly thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. Leeuwin now exports to 30 markets. The estate releases wines under the Art Series, Prelude Vineyards and Siblings labels.

Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellar door and art gallery. The estate is renowned for staging spectacular events and welcoming visitors from around the world.
