The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino PS has put on quite a bit of weight since I tasted it last year but it remains more delicate and less imposing than the 2004 Brunello. The richly textured vivid Brunello di Montalcino PS jumps from the glass with seamless layers of fruit. Impeccable and refined throughout the wine offers extraordinary balance and elegance. Sweet mentholated notes add further complexity to the fruit as the wine gains a measure of volume and depth that carries through to the refined silky finish. Impressive poise from the outset with very fresh red and black cherries, supported by attractive earth, spice and cedar. The palate has seamless, elegant and super fine tannins with impressive length, depth and balance. Drink over the next six to eight years.

Sweet cherry on the nose with a hint of flowers and new oak. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and a long rich finish. Powerful and rich for the vintage. A new wine from the master of Brunello. Best after 2011. 500 cases made. -JS
