The wine is dry and balanced with a fabulous core of blackberry cassis and smoky oak. With a drop of Petite Verdot which adds a touch of violets this is one of the best high mountain Cabs of the vintage. Too dry and toughly astringent to drink before 2010; should develop well through 2016 at least. S.H.

Bright ruby-red. Expressive nose offers black cherry black raspberry coffee smoked meat and minerals. Essentially silky in texture but juicy and youthfully tight with terrific purity of dark fruit and mineral flavor. This... Bright ruby-red. Expressive nose offers black cherry black raspberry coffee smoked meat and minerals. Essentially silky in texture but juicy and youthfully tight with terrific purity of dark fruit and mineral flavor. This impressively intense wine seems more primary today than the reserve claret. Finishes very long and minerally with building fine-grained tannins. These top 2004 cuvees boast terrific acidity for the vintage and are likely to evolve slowly. 94(+?) points
