A gentle touch of wood serves as a background note for the somber and backward earthy black fruit aromas that lead to palate drenching flavors of solid depth and this really coats the palate with old vine sap. This is a dramatic '04 with such reserves of mid-palate sap that it completely buries the firm tannic spine. It is not notably complex at this point but that will almost certainly come with time in bottle. Perhaps the best raw material in the range.
