Neal Martin's Wine Journal, July 2013

Tasted at the Bipin Desai’s VCC vertical in Los Angeles. This is a triumph of wine over vintage: Alexandre Thienpont having to pass through the vineyard six times in order to pick the grapes. It was worthwhile because...

Wine Spectator, March 2007

Fabulous aromas of crushed berries vanilla and chocolate with pure fruit. Full-bodied with silky tannins and a long caressing finish. All in texture. A gorgeous and seductive young wine. This is 25 percent Cabernet Franc...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2021

Offering notes of flowers, wet earth, truffle, cherries, cigar box, lead pencil and savory herbs. Medium/full-bodied, the wine starts so soft, round and silky, with a core of sweet red fruits. The back end, at the end of...

Vinous, March 2022

The 2004 Vieux Château Certan is an important one in my opinion, since it is the first whereby Alexandre Thienpont surpasses the limitations of the growing season, producing one of the best Right Bank wines you will find...

Wine Enthusiast, June 2007

A powerfully extracted wine, which almost—but not quite—submerges what is a fresh, fruity layer. The new wood that goes with the extraction is obvious at this stage in the wine's development, but that cassis fruit will...

Vieux Chateau Certan, sometimes referred to among Bordeaux enthusiasts as “VCC”, is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates of the Pomerol appellation. The estate is located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, just a few rows of vines away from the bell tower of Pomerol’s famous church. The vines are planted on the famed Gunz terrace with soils made up of large, round pebbles together with different clays over an iron-rich subsoil.

The vineyard covers 14 hectares (35 acres) in a single block, and includes 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Sauvignon performs exceptionally well in this terroir and reaches perfect ripeness levels.

With its brilliant velvety color, outstandingly rich aromas, and the depth and subtlety of its flavors, Vieux Chateau Certan is regularly ranked by the world’s press and international tasting panels among the very top wines. It has naturally good concentration and repays cellaring for several years before drinking.
