As expected, the wine exhibits a dense black color, with mineral, burnt toast and dark fruit on the bouquet. The flavor profile offers cured meat, leather, graphite and plenty of blackberry, mocha, caramel and coffee... It's all puppy fat for now, warm and dense, a peppery cloak for a steak if you drink it in the next year or two. Further age should bring more mellow pleasures.

Also some meatiness. Upright and fine-textured but still quite chewy. Spice needs to settle down a bit for the fruit to emerge more fully. Rich and attractively fresh. 17/20 (JH)

The wine was aged in new French oak for 18 months. Purple-colored it offers an expressive nose of pain grille pencil lead scorched earth black cherry and blackberry. Firm and structured on the palate this nicely balanced wine has ample spicy fruit but a slightly compressed finish. It has enough structure to evolve for 3-5 years and should drink well through 2020.

Black cherry plum coffee and smoke flavors mingle in this sleek muscular red. The tannins are prominent now but lively acidity provides balance and the finish is spicy and long. Best from 2008 through 2016. 300 cases... Black cherry plum coffee and smoke flavors mingle in this sleek muscular red. Inky ruby. Earthy cherry and dark berry scents are accompanied by brooding notes of printer's ink graphite and licorice root. Earthy cherry and dark berry scents are accompanied by brooding notes of printer's ink graphite and licorice root. Starts off solid and a bit clenched but aeration brings out sweeter kirsch and floral pastille flavors. The finish shows bitter cherry chocolate and espresso. Give this some cellar time.
