janeanson.com, June 2022

Ruby red, beautiful balanced classic St Julien, earthy, rose petals, tobacco, liqourice root. This is just so drinkable, juicy, full of character, with energy, tension and fruit, but also great aromatics and silky...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, February 2015

The Château Gloria 2005 has what you might describe as an “airy” bouquet armed with bright brambly red berry fruit, boysenberry and touches of cedar coming through, atypically showy in style but there is nothing wrong...

Wine Spectator, March 2008

Licorice blackberry and fresh cèpe on the nose. Full and velvety-textured with lots of fruit and a long caressing finish. Pretty and rich. The best Gloria in years. Best after 2014. 18000 cases made. -JS

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, February 2009

Quite toasty and developed on the nose. Forward and easy – perhaps not the most ambitious but a nicely balanced drink with just a hint of dark chocolate. This was the group favourite. 17/20

TheWineCellarInsider.com, June 2015

Showing light ruby with bricking in the color, the earthy, tobacco and cedar chest nose, with its medium bodied, soft, red berry finish is clearly in a good place today. However, a few more years could help soften the...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2015

This wine is glorious – so to speak – with loads of exuberant fruit and plenty of cedary forest floor, Christmas fruitcake, blackcurrant and cherry fruit. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine is again an over-achieving...

Chateau Gloria is one-of-a-kind, created by Henri Martin who purchased plots piece-by-piece, but exclusively from crus classified in 1855. The 50 hectare vineyard spans three areas: the middle of Beychevelle, the west of Saint-Julien and, on the north, on the border of Pauillac.

The vines include 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot on Gunzian gravel soil over a layer of clay and sand. Average vine age is 40 years.

Chateau Gloria also has a second wine, Chateau Peymartin, produced using the estate's youngest vines.

Chateau Gloria is harvested by hand, with traditional vinification and fermentation in heat-regulated stainless steel vats. The wine matures for 14 months in casks, 40% of them new. Recent vintages have featured jammy fruit, typically prune and black currant, with rich but approachable tannins.

The 2005 Chateau Gloria St. Julien is a Bordeaux Blend from the renowned St. Julien region in Bordeaux, France. This red wine has a deep, ruby red color that is visually stunning in the glass. The nose is filled with enticing aromas of licorice, blackberry, and fresh cèpe, creating a captivating bouquet that immediately draws you in.

On the palate, this wine delivers a full-bodied and velvety-textured experience. The abundance of fruit flavors is remarkable, with notes of blackberry and dark chocolate making their presence known. The wine offers a long and caressing finish that lingers on the palate, leaving a satisfying impression.

Renowned wine critic Jane Anson awarded this wine an impressive score of 95 points. She describes it as a beautifully balanced classic St. Julien, with earthy nuances, rose petals, tobacco, and licorice root. Anson praises its drinkability, character, energy, tension, and fruit, highlighting its great aromatics and silky tannins.

Other wine critics also have high praise for the 2005 Chateau Gloria St. Julien. Wine Spectator awarded it 92 points, noting that it is the best Gloria in years. Jancis Robinson gave it a score of 90, describing it as forward, easy, and nicely balanced. Neal Martin's Wine Journal also awarded it 92 points, praising its bright brambly red berry fruit, tobacco, and dried herb flavors.

This wine is an overachiever, according to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, which awarded it 90 points. It is filled with exuberant fruit, cedary forest floor notes, and a touch of Christmas fruitcake. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine is expected to age gracefully for the next 15 years or more.

Overall, the 2005 Chateau Gloria St. Julien is a remarkable Bordeaux Blend that showcases the best of the St. Julien region. With its beautiful color, enticing aromas, and complex flavors, this wine is a true gem worth seeking out. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further development, it promises to deliver a memorable experience for any wine enthusiast.
