The nose of the 2005 Almaviva is bright and still quite fruit-driven, clean, aromatic and floral, with a touch of paprika and smoke. It is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Carmenere and 5% Cabernet Franc from a dry and warm year that produced a juicy wine with abundant, fine-grained tannins and some dustiness. It has complexity and elegance, lightness and brightness and a showy personality—it's more expressive than the majority of other vintages. It was in 2005 that they started vinifying by small plots and gaining precision in the vineyard segmentation. Ripe, but with life ahead. - Luis Gutiérrez
