The 2005 Beaune “Clos de l’Ecu” is a terrific bottle of Beaune and fully underscores just how brilliant this vintage is for red wines from the southern half of Burgundy. The bouquet is deep, pure and refined, as it offers up notes of black cherries, raspberries, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, earth and a pungent violet topnote. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and racy, with a sappy core of fruit, fine focus, and excellent length and grip on the finish that closes with very fine-grained and ripe tannins. A most impressive Beaune in the making. (Drink between 2014-2035)
