Lopez de Heredia is a family-run Spanish producer based in Rioja and regarded as one of the world’s greatest wine estates. It was founded in 1877 by Don Rafael Lopez de Heredia y Landeta. Four generations of the Lopez de Heredia family have devoted themselves to upholding their 140-year tradition of producing exceptional and unique wines.

Tondonia, the winery’s most famous vineyard and product, was established between 1913 and 1914. It extends over 250 acres on the right bank of the River Ebro. In addition to Tondonia, the estate owns three vineyards (Cubillo, Bosconia, and Zaconia) covering a total area of 420 hectares. The soil is alluvial clay with a high proportion of limestone.

Lopez de Heredia winery is the oldest in Haro and one of the first three houses in the Rioja region. They use completely natural and traditional methods of winemaking and their grapes are sourced exclusively from their own vineyards. They use typical Rioja varieties to produce the best wines: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo for reds, Viura and Malvasia for whites.

The winery’s commitment to tradition is evident in their 131-years history of using American oak. They continue to have their own cooperage, making them the only bodega in Spain to hand-craft all the barrels used to age their wines.

Sourced from the Bosconia vineyard, this wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. It is aged for 5 years in oak barrels, racked twice a year and fined with fresh egg whites. It can be cellared for 10 years in perfect conditions with constant temperature and humidity.

Introducing the 2005 Lopez De Heredia Rioja Vina Bosconia Reserva, a captivating red wine from the renowned Rioja region in Spain. With its rich history and exceptional craftsmanship, Lopez De Heredia has created a masterpiece that embodies the essence of Tempranillo grapes.

In the glass, this wine displays a deep and alluring red color, luring you in with its enchanting hue. The nose is initially closed, hinting at its youthfulness, but gradually reveals its elegant rusticity with each swirl. Clean and precise, the aromas are a harmonious blend of red and black fruits, accompanied by subtle notes of oak and spice.

On the palate, the 2005 Vina Bosconia Reserva showcases a remarkable balance between power and elegance. The velvety tannins caress the tongue, while an invigorating acidity enlivens the senses. This wine is an embodiment of finesse, with a seamless integration of fruit flavors that linger on the palate.

Renowned wine critic Luis Gutierrez describes this wine as "terribly elegant," a sentiment echoed by many who have had the pleasure of experiencing its allure. With its lower yielding year, the 2005 vintage has exceeded expectations, surpassing even its acclaimed predecessor, the 2004.

Produced in limited quantities, only 99,000 bottles were filled in June 2011, ensuring that this wine remains a cherished gem. The closure of choice is a traditional cork, further enhancing the wine's appeal and potential for aging.

The 2005 Lopez De Heredia Rioja Vina Bosconia Reserva is a testament to the art of winemaking and the unique terroir of the Rioja region. It is a wine that captivates the senses, inviting you to savor each sip and indulge in its elegance. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is a true masterpiece that embodies the spirit of Rioja.
