Still powerful and explosive, the 2005 needs a few more years in bottle for its bouquet to open up an the tannins to soften. Intense feral notes typical of this site give the wine much of its strong, assertive personality. Iron, blood, game, smoke, incense and herbs open up, but only with great reticence. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2005 is shaping up to be a terrific Barolo very much in a large-scaled, structured style that is the signature of this Castiglione Falletto site.

I really like the dried red fruit, almost stewed, with berries and spices. Full bodied, tannic and powerful. This is a huge wine with a tremendous finish. Hold off on this until 2015.

Sliced plum, floral and leaf aromas. Full-bodied, with very soft, velvety tannins with rich, generous fruit. Long and powerful. Best after 2013. 800 cases made.
