The 2005 Premium is sourced from the estate’s oldest vines, some of them over 100 years. Malolactic fermentation was in new French oak followed by aging in another set of new barrels for over 24 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up a superb perfume of exotic spices, sandalwood, herbs, lavender, and assorted black fruits. Dense, rich, and plush on the palate, this large-scaled, powerful effort will benefit from anther 5-6 years of cellaring and will offer prime drinking from 2016 to 2030. - Jay S Miller

Heady, exotically perfumed bouquet displays dark berry and cherry liqueur, vanilla, cola and smoky Indian spices, with a strong note of potpourri. Sweet and energetic in the mouth, offering lush dark berry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by tangy minerality and a spicy quality. Floral pastille and vanilla notes linger on the very long, penetrating finish. This got the 200% new oak treatment and while it is undeniably modern, it's also extremely seductive, if you're open to those charms. -- Josh Raynolds
