James Halliday, April 2009

Bright and youthful colour; a complex array of nectarine grapefruit and spice particularly cinnamon on the bouquet; the palate exhibits understated power with grilled nuts supporting the very generous yet refined level of...

Wine Front, January 2009

97 points - This was tasted a year ago at the estate but was buried in a longer post on a range of Leeuwin Estate wines - it's time it was given it's own place on the site. This wine has not been re-tasted since this note...

Wine Enthusiast, July 2010

Dramatic with opulent honeyed peach and tropical fruit notes framed by smoky hints of roasted cashew and vanilla. Despite the flamboyant personality and full-bodied richness there's also a sense of elegance and an intense...

Wine Spectator, November 2009

Harmonious complete and deftly balanced to emphasize pear green guava and spice flavors lingering effortlessly on a graceful open-textured frame. Not as dramatic as some vintages but so welcoming you want a second glass...

Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned Australian winery and one of the five founding wineries in the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. Formerly a cattle ranch, the property was converted to vineyards by Denis and Tricia Horgan upon the advice of legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi when he visited Australia and saw the estate’s potential as being ideal for the production of premium wines.

The estate enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979 and was quickly thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. Leeuwin now exports to 30 markets. The estate releases wines under the Art Series, Prelude Vineyards and Siblings labels.

Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellar door and art gallery. The estate is renowned for staging spectacular events and welcoming visitors from around the world.

The “Art Series” represents Leeuwin’s most opulent & age-worthy wines from each vintage. They are identified with paintings commissioned from leading contemporary Australian artists.

Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay is aromatically complex and packed with flavor but maintains vivid acidity. The wine is fruit forward, typically citrus-driven but also showing pear and nuances of stone fruit. Oak-aging adds depth and gentle accents, such as cinnamon, but no overt woody notes. The wines easily age, and improve, for a good 15 years.
