The 2006 Clos l’Eglise has a wonderful, fresh and delineated bouquet that shows the 2005 how it's done: crisper and more focused, shimmering red berry fruit laced with touches of wild mint. The palate is well balanced with gentle grip, fine backbone, a little drier and less viscous than the previous vintage, yet more tensile with a lovely white pepper note laced with sage and truffle. (92+ points) While the 2006 Clos L'Eglise was relatively closed aromatically, it offers a powerful, full-bodied style on the palate that certainly kept me coming back to the glass. With air, more chocolatey dark fruits, earth, and spice notes emerge from the glass. This classic, medium to full-bodied Pomerol has a terrific mid-palate, ripe tannins, and the balance to improve with another handful of years in the cellar and evolve gracefully for over a decade.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London and then at the château, the 2006 Clos l'Eglise has an attractive, quite opulent bouquet with blueberry and crème de cassis aromas tinged with black truffle and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, good acidity, grippy in the mouth and substantial weight on the finish. If it can evolve more finesse on the finish, this will be a very satisfying Pomerol, so afford it another 3-4 years in bottle. Tasted March 2016. - Neal Martin

Blackberry, blueberry and flowers on the nose follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with well-integrated tannins. Shows cedar, coffee and berry flavors on the aftertaste. Subtle and refined. Should turn out very well with bottle age. Best after 2013. 2,500 cases made. –JS
