The second of two prestige cuvées from Deutz, this shows its high proportion of Pinot Noir with its full-bodied nature. Already mature, it has broadened into a richly complex, toasty, spicy wine. With full-throttle acidity that gives it a taut edge, it's impressive and ready to drink. ROGER VOSS

Hints of marzipan and apricot preserves enrich this finely meshed Champagne, with racy acidity providing a vibrant frame. Plenty of savory complexity in the pastry and grilled biscuit zone, while some ripe-peach, lemon and grapefruit citrus runs in a sorbet-like smooth textural sleeve. Finishes fresh, and holds citrus fruit flavor neatly. Drink now.

The Millésime 2006 William Deutz Brut (LA110D27915) spent 100 months on the lees in bottle before disgorgement (October 2015). The blend of 66% Pinot Noir, 29% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Meunier displays ripe, concentrated, very aromatic fruit with citrus fruit zest flavors, candied lemons and aromatic herbs highlighted by pure mineral flavors. The palate is full-bodied, powerful and rich, with enormous tension and a touch of sweetness that makes the 2006 overly rich for my taste, at least at this stage. However, the wine has a firm structure and so much intensity, which is promising for excellent aging potential. Tasted June 2018.- SR
