Also showing consistently was the 2006 Réserve Secrète. A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah that was aged in 60% oak barrels, it is a full-bodied, decadent Châteauneuf-du-Pape that possesses thrilling aromas of black fruits, truffle, chocolate, and roasted meats, a seamless, pure texture, and a massively structured, tannic finish. Still youthful, lively, and fresh, it is a superb drink now, but would ideally be given another 4-5 years in the cellar.

Mature, but in no danger of fading anytime soon, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape la Reserve Secrete easily combines hints of roasted meat, cured leather, black cherries and licorice on the nose. (93 Points) Some cherry and plum amongst the berry fruits here. Full-bodied for sure, but again with a delicious freshness, all helped by high acidity levels. Very fine, sandy tannins on the finish and a delicate mineral seam add to the package.
