From a single plot of vines planted in the early 1900's the 2006 Elderton Shiraz Single Vineyard Command is a serious layered wine that boasts spectacular aromatics of cassis and blackberry fruits smoked meats mineral and classy integrated oak. While the wine was aged for 30+ months in barrel the oak component is integrated beautifully and is a complementing factor. Full bodied and powerful on the palate with a fantastic silky texture superb balance and very long finish that pumps out loads of perfectly ripe fruit this is a superb drink now but also has the underlying structure to evolve for 10-15 years. A great example of a top Barossa Shiraz! - Jeb Dunnuck

I opened this and had a quick taste thinking much like Arnold that I'd be back. Events conspired against me and I was out for action for a couple of days what with one thing and another so the review is from the first glass. Still I reckon I got the cut of its jib.It has a mix of rich red and black fruits with strong cherry accents and the usual toasted mocha and coconut oak although it seems both better integrated and a little more subtle again this year. It's fresh with a plentiful supply of beautiful fine supple tannins and long smooth finish. No problem drinking this young whatsoever. I'd have no problem scoring it a point higher even either way it's a lovely wine. --Gary Walsh

The 2006 Shiraz Command is a glass-coating opaque purple. Aromas of scorched earth pencil lead sandalwood meat blood game and blueberry are followed by a dense voluptuous layered Shiraz with tons of flavor. Impeccably balanced and concealing enough structure for 5-7 years of cellaring it will offer a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2026. -Jay Miller

Good viticulture has helped fashion a fine Command whose densely layered aromas of plums blackberries cassis and mocha/chocolate oak are backed by meaty cedary and vanilla undertones. Dripping with concentrated confiture-like fruit its long sumptuous palate of profoundly ripened but not over ripened fruit shows all the customary Elderton extravagance with oak but is underpinned by a silky-smooth chassis of plaint tannin.

Exotically perfumed bouquet of blackberry boysenberry cherry-vanilla cola and incense. A lot of oak spice here but there's also a load of powerful deeply concentrated dark fruit. Velvety in texture with strong finishing spiciness and lingering dark berry liqueur qualities. Nothing subtle about this but it's improbably graceful and focused. -Josh Raynolds

Sexy wine with an undertone of briar giving some grip and freshness. Southern Rhone in ambition. Very long and juicy but too hot and sweet to get a better score. Drink now. Screw cap.
