Cherry red berries menthol and a whiff of marzipan on the nose and palate. Firm harmonious acidity gives this wine lovely vinosity and elegance with an enticing minerality adding complexity. This is riper and sweeter than the 2005-more glyceral-but has excellent energy. In fact it's still a bit youthfully compressed. Carlo Revello noted that the estate increased the quality of its crus by declassifying a good bit of fruit in '06 but that this move was done "due to the market." This is the only Barolo here that's made in larger barrels.

Floral cherry and licorice notes come together with the open-knit lacy texture in this Barolo. This is firmly structured yet harmonious and long on the spice-inflected finish. Best from 2012 through 2024. -BS

The 2006 Barolo Gattera sweeps across the palate with a round harmonious expression of fruit that is typical from this vineyard one of La Morra's warmer microclimates. The wine turns more floral and perfumed in the glass as it puts on additional weight yet without becoming excessively heavy. Here too the finish is exceptionally pure and elegant with a leitmotif of perfumed floral red fruits that lingers on the close. The Gattera is made from two parcels at opposite ends of the vineyard and is the only single-vineyard Barolo Revello ages in medium-size oak. The results over the last few years have been nothing less than striking. The Gattera is the most forward and approachable of Revello's 2006 Barolos. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. 92+ --- Antonio Galloni

I like the clarity of fruit to this red with raspberry and plum aromas and flavors. Full and silky with fine tannins and a clean finish. Better after 2013.
