Wine Enthusiast, March 2009

Wonderful sweet fruit, velvet in texture, with concentrated ripe fruits and red berries. This is a wine that rolls sumptuously around the mouth, the tannins certainly dense but full of the same sweetness as the fruit. The...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, January 2010

Dark and mysterious-looking. Aromatic and very sweet on the front palate with some spice and minerals. Very distinctive and ambitious. Super lively. Lots tucked in there. Very impressive. 18.5/20

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2022

The 2006 La Mission Haut-Brion is showing very well at age 15, and even though it's still five or six years away from the beginning of its plateau of maturity, it is already quite expressive, wafting from the glass with...

Wine Spectator, March 2009

Almost jammy with vanilla bean and coffee undertones. Full-bodied and very powerful with big juicy tannins and a long finish. Very big and generous for the vintage showing exceptional quality. Best after 2015. 6000 cases...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2016

Full bodied, still youthful, tannic and fresh, the wine has smoke, tobacco, cassis, ripe black fruits and tannins to spare. However, the tannins are firm and there is a strictness to the wines classic character that will...

Wine & Spirits, December 2009

A vibrantly fruited, dark, herbal style of cabernet, the aristocratic pedigree of this wine's terroir is immediately apparent in its length of flavor. But its depth is inaccessible for now, buried under a tough, earthy...

Created by the noble Lestonnac family in the early years of the 16th century, the vineyard of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion owes its name and its reputation to a missionary order commonly known as the Lazarites, who held the property from 1682 until the French Revolution.

The property is situated just opposite that of Chateau Haut-Brion, in the Pessac-Leognan appellation of the Northern Graves region. The vineyard covers an area of 29 hectares of which 26.60 hectares are planted with 42.7% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10.3% Cabernet Franc with an annual production of 6,000 to 7,000 cases. Over 3 hectares are devoted to white grape varieties (Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc).

In 1983, the Dillon family, already owners of Chateau Haut-Brion, added Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion to Domaine Clarence Dillon’s holdings. The new owners immediately set to work on an ambitious renovation program for the property, giving La Mission a new lease on life.

In the space of twenty-five years, the Dillon family, having fallen under the spell of this enchanting estate, successfully completed their impressive makeover of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion so that for many years to come , it might continue to offer wine connoisseurs the world over a little glimpse of paradise in each bottle.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is definitely bewitching. It possesses a great intensity that delights with complex red fruits and and the signature of its terroir showing notes of Havana cigars, chocolate, and roasted cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is spherical and generous with a long, silky finish.

The 2006 La Mission Haut Brion is a Bordeaux Blend red wine from the esteemed Pessac Leognan region of Bordeaux, France. This wine is a true gem, showcasing the elegance and power that La Mission Haut Brion is known for.

In the glass, this wine presents a very dark and dense core that is almost black, with a vibrant fuchsia and violet rim. The aromas are intoxicating, with thick brambly blackberry and boysenberry notes followed by hints of mandarin orange zest and light spices like clove and nutmeg. It is a complex bouquet that entices the senses.

On the palate, this wine is full-bodied and beautifully balanced. Rich red and black cherries dominate, supported by a solid tannic structure that adds depth and complexity. The finish is long and lingering, with a spicy fruit character that leaves a lasting impression.

Notable wine critic Mike Supple had the pleasure of tasting this wine at La Mission Haut Brion and described it as better than Haut Brion itself. He noted the consistent quality and highlighted the blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 59% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc.

Other esteemed critics also praised this wine, with Wine Spectator giving it a score of 95 and describing it as almost jammy with vanilla bean and coffee undertones. Jancis Robinson also scored it 95, praising its distinctiveness and ambitious nature. Wine Enthusiast awarded it a score of 96, noting its wonderful sweet fruit and velvet texture.

The 2006 La Mission Haut Brion is a wine that is already expressing itself beautifully at 15 years of age, but it still has several more years of aging potential. It is a wine that will reward those who are patient enough to cellar it, allowing its flavors to evolve and mature over time. This is a wine that truly embodies the essence of Bordeaux and is a must-try for any wine enthusiast.
