Rich but youthfully taut with deep incisive red fruit flavors that are slow to unwind. Becomes more perfumed with air and picks up notes of cracked pepper and nutmeg. Finishes with nervy cut and silky harmonious tannins. This promising wine still needs a little bottle age. 92(+?) points

It's built as a refined claret cool in tone neither thick nor sweet. The balance makes it approachable now and intriguing to pair with venison kangaroo or other lean gamey meats. The discretion and weight of the wine suggest it will age with grace.

Apparently the Cabernet was picked three weeks later than at Voyager Estate! This has a leafy herbaceous nose certainly the most austere and Bordeaux-like of recent vintages with just the right amount of under-ripeness. The palate is medium-bodied lighter tannins more herbaceous but still well balanced and fresh on the tobacco-laced finish. This is a success in a difficult vintage.

Fresh and vibrant aromas form the core of the bouquet with crunchy fruit notes sweet earth and subtle hints of soy and mushroom lying underneath. The medium-weighted flavors are clean and focused with a brightness from the perfect acid integration. Bringing to mind a clean version of a Bordeaux the dark cherry and cassis notes are pure and clean and carry along to a subtle finish with a light delicate ending. Perfectly weighted and balanced this elegantly styled wine shows great harmony and represents the varietal in a truthful manner.

Leeuwin Estate

Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned Australian winery and one of the five founding wineries in the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. Formerly a cattle ranch, the property was converted to vineyards by Denis and Tricia Horgan upon the advice of legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi when he visited Australia and saw the estate’s potential as being ideal for the production of premium wines.

The estate enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979 and was quickly thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. Leeuwin now exports to 30 markets. The estate releases wines under the Art Series, Prelude Vineyards and Siblings labels.

Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellar door and art gallery. The estate is renowned for staging spectacular events and welcoming visitors from around the world.
