The Potel 2006 Mazoyeres-Chambertin brings a bit of the incense and resin to bear in the nose that the corresponding Mazis delivers in spades. Here, though, there is greater purity of ripe red fruit and a plush texture. Chalky, meaty elements impinge on the sappy fruit and pungent herbs in an energetically interactive and piquant finish. It will be fascinating to permit this to perform over the next half dozen or more years. Lesne indicates that half of the fruit here originates in a relatively cool, late-harvested portion of the site that really promotes aromas if not high must weight. - David Schildknecht
