Showing even a bit better than a previous bottle (reviewed in Issue 4), the 2006 Torbreck Run Rig (97% Shiraz & 3% Viognier, aged 30 months in new and older French oak) delivers a dense, complex bouquet of cassis and licorice infused blackberry styled fruits to go with complementing, complex aromas of peppered meat, underbrush, and subtle tobacco. Full bodied and decadent on the palate, with loads of fruit, but also superb balance and serious length, this is approachable and stunning now, but should easily evolve and age gracefully for 15+ years.

Still tight and taut, the glorious 2006 RunRig looks capable of aging through at least 2030. Floral notes appear on the nose, along with ripe raspberries. This is surprisingly young, vibrant and fresh, with a long, silky finish. - Joe Czerwinski

For all of this wine's warmth, it's not overly weighty, instead delivering raspberry jam flavors tinged with cracked pepper and slightly herbal or floral notes. No sharp edges, no drying tannins, just a mouthful of pleasure, ending with hints of espresso and dark chocolate. Drink now–2016.
