The last wine of the flight is the outstanding 2006 Barolo Riserva Villero. It literally bursts open to full force intensity and beauty. It’s a mind-blowing interpretation of the often austere and brooding Nebbiolo grape that shows abundant life and vigor. Dark leather, cured beef, pressed rose petal, candied fruit, prune, cola, dried herbs and crushed mineral emerge from the glass like an aromatic marching band. Though on the linear side, this Barolo is full of sweet cherry, licorice, leather, savory herb and tobacco aromas and flavors. Dense and taut, showing a granular feel to the well-integrated tannins.
