janeanson.com, April 2023

At 15 years old from a lighter-styled vintage, this Ducru is pretty much at the perfect moment to drink. Edges of tobacco, cigar box, brambled fruit, soft raspberry leaf, gentle spice, turmeric and campfire smoke. The...

Decanter, September 2019

A difficult year in theory but, as with many of the good names in Bordeaux, it is tasting excellently right now and will give lots of pleasure over the next five to 10 years. It has the clove, tar and cigar-smoke edge...

jebdunnuck.com, October 2023

A vintage that continues to show brilliantly, the 2007 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou shines for its up-front elegance and purity. Classic notes of ripe dark fruits, cedary herbs, tobacco, and acacia flowers all emerge on the...

The Wine Independent, September 2023

The 2007 Ducru-Beaucaillou, 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, is deep garnet in color with a touch of brick. It bursts from the glass with mature notes of cigar box, prunes, tar, and sauteed herbs, leading to a core...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2010

A very powered wine, pushing forward with solid, but always fresh structure and fruit. The wine bursts with ripe jammy fruits, but is also firmly tannic. It combines sweet weight with final extreme, exuberant freshness...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2020

Deep garnet in color, the 2007 Ducru-Beaucaillou reveals forest floor, fallen leaves and new leather notions to begin, opening out to offer notes of baked plums, dried mulberries, cassis and iron ore plus a hint of...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2023

Light garnet tea in color, with tobacco leaf, spice, and red fruits, the wine is medium-bodied, and soft, with strawberry currants in the nose and on the palate, finishing with light, red fruits, spearmint, and drying...

Vinous, July 2022

The 2007 Ducru-Beaucaillou, matured in 90% new oak, is a vintage that I have not tasted for several years. It has quite a potent, lavender-scented bouquet, more red than black fruit (raspberry and pomegranate) and touches...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.
