Kerpen's "one star" 2007 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese offers the malt and toasted nuts that characterized his "no star" version but here with baked rather than fresh apple and a honeyed glaze. (There was only minimal botrytis in the fruit Kerpen insists.) This displays flattering creaminess of texture memorable lift and a long soothing finish incorporates an unusual prominence of brown spices for a wine from this site.
