Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 La Conseillante has a very pretty bouquet with tarry black cherry fruit, black truffle and incense. I appreciate the focus and freshness on this Pomerol. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, very focused with plenty of freshness and tension on the finish. Maybe the best bottle of this I have encountered, this La Conseillante is well worth hunting down. Tasted February 2017. - Neal Martin

Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. Here, the La Conseillante put in a better performance than a few weeks earlier at Chez Bruce. There is certainly a lot of fruit concentration on the nose: blackberry, mulberry, raspberry coulis and a touch of gravel, opening up nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a touch of spice on the entry, good tension and sense of -animation- here, cherries and raspberry defining the pert, lively finish the lingers wonderfully.

The 2007 La Conseillante has a more herbaceous bouquet than the 2006. This was born with less fruit intensity although there remain attractive notes of sous-bois, tobacco and just a hint of liquorish. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm, grippy tannin. This is one of the most ferrous La Conseillante Grand Vins, well balanced if just a little brutish towards the finish, tinctures of clove and dried blood lingering on the aftertaste. It seems ready to be drunk now and should continue to give pleasure over the next 6 to 8 years as it seems to have matured a little faster than I anticipated. As is often the case with these exceptional estates, vintages that are generally considered difficult are extremely well handled. This 2007 shows good balance, with none of the green flavours or dilution that you can find elsewhere - expect to find raspberry, redcurrant and soft liquorice root. It's still unlikely to develop the tertiary complexity of the best vintages from this estate, so enjoy it over the next four to five years. A little short but gives lots of pleasure.

Better on the nose, with its developed truffle, mocha, floral and cherry tones, than on the medium bodied, bright, red cherry and plum focused palate. The finish has softness and delicacy, but there is not a lot of stuffing here. (90+) The 2007 La Conseillante probably sports just a bit more new wood than might have been ideal in this vintage, but it is a very elegant and classically made wine underneath its new wood, and should prove to be a very stylish middleweight in the fullness of time. The wine offers up a very stylish nose of raspberries, coffee, herb tones, tobacco smoke, lovely soil tones and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is medium-full, suave and stylish, with moderate tannins, good, but not great depth at the core and good length and grip on the complex, intensely flavored and well-balanced finish. The 2007 La Conseillante is not a great vintage at this estate, but I have a slight preference for this style of vintage here (where La Conseillante’s inherent elegance works so beautifully with the lighter character of the vintage) over more powerful, but less elegant renditions of this great terroir that are found in more forceful years like 1989 or 1990.
