(90+) The 2007 La Conseillante probably sports just a bit more new wood than might have been ideal in this vintage, but it is a very elegant and classically made wine underneath its new wood, and should prove to be a very stylish middleweight in the fullness of time. The wine offers up a very stylish nose of raspberries, coffee, herb tones, tobacco smoke, lovely soil tones and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is medium-full, suave and stylish, with moderate tannins, good, but not great depth at the core and good length and grip on the complex, intensely flavored and well-balanced finish. The 2007 La Conseillante is not a great vintage at this estate, but I have a slight preference for this style of vintage here (where La Conseillante’s inherent elegance works so beautifully with the lighter character of the vintage) over more powerful, but less elegant renditions of this great terroir that are found in more forceful years like 1989 or 1990. Will this turn out as well as the 1981, which in its prime was superior to the 1982? (Drink between 2015-2040)
