A more serious effort, the 2007 La Fleur Morange (70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) is one of the vintage’s top wines. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of raspberries, incense, Christmas fruitcake, and spice box. Surprisingly full-bodied (13.5% alcohol) with good density and richness, this is a big yet velvety textured wine to drink over the next decade or more.

Broad, sweet and intense in the mouth, with excellent calcaire energy giving the wine a light touch. Less exotic and more penetrating than the Mathilde, finishing with sweet tannins and very good juicy persistence. This showed a bit more greenness with extended aeration but comes across as a rather serious wine for the vintage. - Stephen Tanzer

Concentrated opaque purple core with lighter red rim. The primary aromas of dried cherries and plums play less of a roll than they likely once did as they’re joined by notes of dark chocolate, espresso, tobacco and a whiff of menthol. On the palate this full-bodied effort comes together nicely with all elements evenly distributed, showing soft integrated tannins with balanced acidity. Drink now and over the next 5-8 years.
