The is a phenomenal young port that showcases flowers, stones, black olives and dried mushrooms on the nose. The polished and finesse are second to none. Full yet so refined and dense with a compact and gorgeous mouthfeel. Goes on for minutes. Hard not to drink now, but this will seemingly live forever.

Amazing aromas of lilac, violet, crushed blueberry and mineral that turn to black pepper and spices follow through to a full-bodied, medium-sweet palate, with a long, chewy finish. Evolves to tar and asphalt. Really held back, yet powerful grip slaps you--and makes you happy. This is mind-blowing in texture. The greatest Dow ever made. Best after 2022. 6,200 cases made. — JS

The 2007 Dow’s was one of the most closed examples of the vintage that I tasted while in Portugal at the end of April, but it was very clearly a great, great bottle in the making. The deep and still quite primary nose offers up a superb blend of cassis, black cherries, tar, black pepper and a very complex base of minerality. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, bottomless and very pure, with its powerful personality currently reigned in by great tangy acids and firm, ripe tannins. The wine is absolutely rock solid at the core, with stunning vibrancy and focus and a finish that simply does not end. I have quite never tasted a greater young vintage of Dow’s. This brilliant wine will take many years to really hit is apogee, and may prove to be almost timeless.

Picked at a lower Baume than the Grahams (3.4) with the backbone sourced from Touriga Nacional in Bomfim this has a more austere nose, introverted with blackberry, cigar box, raspberry leaf, a touch of cold stones and blueberry. Complex but you have to come to it – it does not come to you. The palate is masculine, aloof, beautifully balanced, spicy and earthy. Very structured on the mid-palate, almost foursquare but I find the focus and the sense of symmetry bewitching. Not a port that will please everyone, but one that Dow-lovers will adore. That includes me by the way. Aristocratic!

This young wine has a very deep purple-black colour with aromas of kirsch, blackberry compote, prunes, licorice, dark chocolate, spice box and a whiff of coffee grounds. An earthy character comes through on the rich, unctuous palate, well structured with firm, finely grained tannins and medium to high acidity. Long finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A solidly structured wine, packed with initially sweet fruit that then becomes drier as the ripe tannins show through. All the ingredients are there, supported by a tense texture to go with the first sweetness. It's an exciting wine, obviously very ageworthy. ROGER VOSS

The color shows the intense concentration of this wine, its deep purple edge predicting the big bite of fruit up front. The bold berry and plum flavors are round, supple and ripe, completely filling the mouth before settling into the schist of the tannin and the char of the oak. Dow is often compressed and hard to read as a young vintage release: This inky 2007 may well make the current rating seem conservative as it expands with age. Check on it 30 years from the vintage.
