The 2007 Vinha da Ponte is part of this issue's vertical. Coming in at 15.5% alcohol, this is a pretty big boy. Its creamy opening is deceptive, because this is a wine with rather good focus, exceptional concentration and a flavorful finish. One of the sexier Pontes, this is not quite in Maria Teresa territory this year, but it is rather flavorful. It has already shown some ability to pull the oak in. As with the 2007 Maria Teresa, the alcohol pops up here and there, but doesn't mar the wine in any major sense. I think the Ponte handles it better. With a couple of hours of air, this becomes a much better balanced wine that has some focus to go with its lush opening and flavorful finish. Overall, I'm still betting on this. - Mark Squires
