From Tuscany's celebrated Frescobaldi wine family Brunello Castelgiocondo opens with dark inky concentration and bold aromas of pressed rose black cherry exotic spice leather and unsweetened chocolate. It is very beautifully put together with ample intensity balance complexity and silkiness on the finish. M.L.

Aromas of violets dark berries and raspberries follow through to a full body with ultra-fine tannins and a long finish. A wine with lovely texture. Chewy. Citrusy undertone. Best in 2015.

Sweet cherry and rustic earth dominate the nose initially then strawberry wet leather and spice emerge to make the wine sing. On the palate inviting tannins make this wine enjoyable now. Rich flavors of strawberry orange peel and mocha hit on entry leading to a mouthwatering mid palate with plenty of acidity to give it a finish that seems to go on forever. Approachable today but I would suggest aging for 3-5 years then enjoying over the next two decades.

Winery

Castelgiocondo

Tenuta Castelgiocondo, situated to the south-west of Montalcino at an altitude of around 300 meters, is an ideal terroir for the production of Sangiovese. The altitude, excellent solar exposure, and well-drained soils enhance the wines of Castelgiocondo, distinguished for their strength and extraordinary longevity.

The territory of Castelgiocondo is dominated by the castle, an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road leading from the sea to Siena. This property is one of the first of 4 estates to produce Brunello di Montalcino, beginning in 1800. It belongs to the Frescobaldi family whose wine history dates back over 700 years.

Today, Lamberto Frescobaldi has taken over the business, and with his long technical experience, aims to further strengthen the uniqueness of the wines of each individual estate in their portfolio.
