jamessuckling.com, November 2013

I like the spices, berries and hints of wet earth on the nose. Dried plums, too. Full-bodied, with amazingly intense, exotic, decadent fruits. Velvety-textured and very flavourful. Gorgeous, sexy style to this. Best wine...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2012

94+ The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is beautiful. A large-scaled opulent wine the 2007 captures the personality of the vintage while retaining fabulous balance and proportion. Layers of dark fruit mocha spices and new...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2012

Smoky overtones of barbecue and pipe tobacco fill in the background and provide a platform for all the busy cherry and ripe berry notes presented at the front of the nose. Dark thick inky concentration. It's a big bold...

Wine Spectator, October 2012

A fluid red, whose smooth texture carries the cherry, balsamic and earth flavors. Lively, with a line of tannins defending the finish. Very stylish. Best from 2014 through 2025. – BS

The Mantengoli family has owned the La Rasa property in Tuscany since 1933, but it wasn’t until 1988 that Andrea Mantengoli and his brother Marcello became involved in the production of high quality Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines. Starting at just 1 hectare of vineyard, the first production of their “La Serena” range was only 2,700 bottles of Brunello. This has since been increased to 30,000 bottles as the organic vineyard has been extended to 8.5 hectares.

The grape harvest for La Serena Brunello normally occurs during the first two weeks of October. When alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are complete, a period of 2 years follows during which the wine matures traditional barrels of 20 hl (and 10% in 225 l barriques).
