With its expressive notes of espressso and black olive, this Shiraz is on the savory side, but it still carries enough plummy fruit to provide balance. With its expressive notes of espressso and black olive, this Shiraz is on the savory side, but it still carries enough plummy fruit to provide balance. It’s mouthfilling and generous, while a bit of tartness on the finish serves to highlight the coffee and earth flavors. Drink now-2017.

Distinctly spicy, with black pepper mingling with ripe blackberry and currant flavors, lingering on the lively finish and showing a fleshy texture. Drink now through 2013. – HS

Jancis Robinson - Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, September 2010
Black cherries, cake, dried cranberry, pure and charming, graceful but muscular. Massively intense fruit core. Formidable length. 17/20 (RH)

Sourced from the Wyjup and Bouvray vineyards in the Great Southern region, and matured for 18 months in 40% new French oak, the 2007 Plantagenet Shiraz is outstanding, delivering beautiful aromatics of meaty black fruits, black olive, dark chocolate, and minerality on the nose. This is followed by a medium+ bodied wine that has great fruit, a full, concentrated mid-palate, and a good, focused finish. Certainly leaning towards the meatier, complex side of the spectrum, this should drink well for a decade. - Jeb Dunnuck
