The estate's 2007 Syrah Migliara from an old-vine plot impresses for its detail nuance and clarity. In many ways it reminds me of Angelo Gaja's Sori Tildin in its jewel-like precision and multi-faceted personality... The estate's 2007 Syrah Migliara from an old-vine plot impresses for its detail nuance and clarity. In many ways it reminds me of Angelo Gaja's Sori Tildin in its jewel-like precision and multi-faceted personality. Impossibly fine ripe tannins frame perfumed red fruit mint minerals and spices all the way through to a sublime eternal finish that seems to never end. What a thrill it will be to follow this wine in the coming years. Readers will have a hard time not opening this now but the Migliara should be even better in a few years. Today it is merely magnificent. Stylistically the Migliara is more refined than Il Bosco. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. It is hard to believe the huge jump in quality this venerable estate has undergone in just the last few years. Luca Currado of Vietti has instilled a Piedmontese sense of discipline that entails greater attention in the vineyards more cleanliness in the cellar and the use of Slavonian oak casks among other things. Vintage 2007 is the first harvest Currado and his team of coworkers followed from start to finish and the results are hugely impressive. It certainly seems like the sky is the limit here. -Antonio Galloni

Dried fruits and jam on the nose follow through to a full body with velvety tannins and a big juicy finish. Tannic. Needs time. Best after 2013. 500 cases made. -JS
