D’Angerville’s 2008 Pommard Combe Dessus (from a site that is part premier cru, just north of Volnay Brouillards, that was the domaine’s first to be farmed biodynamically) features tart cherry, red currant, and rhubarb underlain by a rich sense of beef stock and chalk suffusion. The site’s iron-rich soil may be reflected in the wine’s smoky peat and Szechuan pepper notes. This is another rather spare but penetrating and persistent 2008 that should keep well for at least 6-8 years, and perhaps become more interesting as youthful tartness recedes, though I’m a bit skeptical on that count. - David Schildknecht
