jamessuckling.com, December 2010

Super racy and balanced. Masses of licorice and currants intense aromas. Full and very silky with an intensity of fruit. Reminds me of the 1996. Best after 2015.

jebdunnuck.com, February 2019

One of the most classic, regal wines in the vintage, the 2008 Léoville Las Cases is made from 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Merlot. Possessing an incredible Cabernet character in its graphite...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2018

Already showing secondary nuances of olives, herbs, truffle, cedar chest, lead pencil and barbecue smoke make the nose. The wine is full bodied, firm, tannic, classically styled and still youthful. Another 5-10 years will...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2022

(95+ points) Another underrated vintage for this estate, the 2008 Léoville Las Cases is a vibrant, youthfully primary wine that's aging at a slower pace than the 2009. Unfurling to reveal aromas of dark berries and...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2011

With its superb tannins, the wine has a great solid core of structure. Over it is an edifice of direct black berry fruits, elegant texture and intense acidity. Impressive, a wine for aging. — Roger Voss

Decanter, January 2018

Firm, rich tannins quietly declare their confidence - this is not yet at its real drinking window as the structure will require another five years to soften. The emphasis is clearly on the primary Cabernet, with an attack...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, February 2012

Tasted ex-château and single blind in Southwold. We opened both bottles of the Château Leoville Las-Cases 2008 the first inexplicably missing a little substance but the second much more deserving. This has a very classic...

Wine Spectator, December 2010

This is loaded for the vintage with layer upon layer of crushed blackberry fig paste and mulled black currant offset by smolder-ing tobacco charcoal and anise notes. The finish is all iron and roasted earth for now with...

One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Leoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Like many properties after the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840 into the three Leovilles we know today: Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville-Poyferre and Leoville-Barton.

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate, including the very heart of the property. The Grand Vin has therefore been sourced from the best part of the original terroir since the 17th century.

Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were successive heirs to the property until 1900, when Theophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Leoville-Las Cases has now been managed by the same family since the late 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the chateau and proprietor of Chateau Potensac in the Medoc and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol.

The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the heart of the original Leoville estate. These are located mainly in the Clos Leoville-Las Cases, which you pass as you leave the village of Saint-Julien for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60 hectares producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Las Cases.
