The tannins are big, but also beautifully integrated. This towering Burgundy will require an extraordinary amount of patience before revealing its true pedigree, but it is clearly magnificent. This is unequivocally a great wine in the making, as the intensity and concentration of Bonnes-Mares dovetails seamlessly with the inherent elegance of the vintage to produce a magical bottle of wine. The celestial nose offers up a brilliant mélange of black cherries, plums, blood orange, woodsmoke, a glorious base of complex soil tones, fresh herbs and a pungent topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with ripe tannins, laser-like focus, bright acids and a monumental finish of amazing elegance and poise. Stunning juice. collapse

The palate is underpinned by edge tannins, not as sumptuous as the 2005 or 2009 of course but it gently fans out on the classic, fresh, oyster shell tinged finish. Give it a couple more years. -- Neal Martin collapse
